Submission Deadline Extended for Services Relating to the Public Insurer for NHI Bahamas

The Government of The Bahamas issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the management, administration and wellness services for the Public Insurer for the NHI Bahamas plan on August 22nd, 2016.

After carefully reviewing requests for an extension from registered and potential bidders, the Government of The Bahamas has agreed to extend the deadline for the acceptance of bidder proposals. Accordingly, all proposals must be submitted on or before 3:00 p.m. on November 7th, 2016.

The Government is seeking to select the best qualified company to manage the Public Insurer and the best choice to provide Bahamians with quality services that will enable the provision of modern, affordable and accessible health care services. The Government of The Bahamas is confident that the extension will not impact the roll out of phase two of NHI Bahamas, which is enrolment.

The NHI Secretariat continues to work diligently to ensure the successful implementation of NHI Bahamas as we prepare for the enrolment phase of the programme.

NHI Policy Paper for modern, affordable and accessible National Health Insurance

This is a policy paper about affordability and equitable access to quality health care services. It presents a framework for establishing the first modern, planned and comprehensive National Health Insurance programme for The Bahamas and is a statement about advancing the social contract that exists between our people and our country. The shared belief in Universal Health Coverage—the principle that eligible legal residents of The Bahamas should have equitable access to affordable, high-quality medical care irrespective of their socio-economic status, personal health history or where they reside—is a national value our Government holds dear.
